Buoy M5 Baby Alpaca Sweater – Black
70% Baby Alpaca / 23%PA / 7% Wool
The Buoy M5 is a special hand-knit style, chunky yet surprisingly lightweight. Enduringly popular, it was designed by Lucy over 10 years ago. She wanted to create a thoroughly modern knit where the abundance of the bobble yields a rich repeating texture. The extremely technical bobble stitch can only be accomplished with one pair of dextrous hands and two needles -patience and skill that cannot be imitated by machine. As a time consuming detail this stitch was traditionally only seen as a flourish in a cabled pattern. At the same time she searched for a yarn that was large enough to make the bobble theatrical, yet really light and soft and found the ideal Baby Alpaca yarn sourced direct from Peru. This yarn is not twisted in the traditional way, instead the fibres are air-jet injected inside a gauze tube resulting in a sweater that weighs less than 500 grams - light in feel, yet dramatic in volume.
The Buoy M5 takes its name from a maritime weather station off the South East Coast of Ireland. Part of a special edition of hand knit styles named in honour of these traditional seafaring links, which also includes the Mizen sweater for AW25.
